The mission of the Petroleum Museum is to share the petroleum and energy story and its impact on our lives.
About This Cause
The mission of the Museum is carried out with a special emphasis on education in the areas of science and cultural history. The Museum is a unique educational facility that serves to teach the cultural and technical stories of the oil and gas industry. Its interactive exhibits cover the petroleum industry from the formation of oil, its exploration, geology, pipelining, marketing, transportation, refining and end uses to the economic and political impact of the industry. Intertwined within the petroleum exhibits are historical displays of the cultural history of inhabitants of the Permian Basin. The Mineral Gallery presents opportunities to enhance geology, geography, earth science and art curriculums. The Chaparral Gallery encourages visitors to discover additional applications of science, physics and engineering. The activities and instructional tours offered by the Museum present a variety of learning opportunities while emphasizing the learning concepts area children learn in the classroom.
