Mission Statement

The Manned Space Flight Education Foundation Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational foundation extensive science education programs and a space museum. The cornerstone of its education mission is Space Center Houston, a leading science and space exploration learning center. It is one of Houston’s top attractions, the area’s No. 1 attraction for international visitors, the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center and a Smithsonian Affiliate. Known around the world as the home of Historic Mission Control, International Space Station Mission Control and astronaut training, guests are taken behind the scenes to visit NASA Johnson Space Center. Since opening in 1992, Space Center Houston has welcomed more than 22 million people and hosts nearly 1.25 million visitors annually in its 250,000-square-foot educational complex. The center earned a 2016 Top Workplaces Award by The Houston Chronicle and generates annually a $118.7 million economic impact, 1,710 jobs and $53.7 million in personal income in greater Houston, according to a 2018 economic study by Quanticon, LLC researchers Stephen Cotton, PhD, and Jason Murasko.

Space Center Houston: Fun and Engaging Education In today’s global economy, the need for workers with STEM skills is rapidly increasing as an important means to strengthen our economy, competitive standing and ability to address critical global needs. Space Center Houston leverages the remarkable past of human space flight and exciting future of space exploration to inspire wonder and interest in science and math. Engaging exhibits showcasing some 400 space artifacts, films and live presentations by astronauts and space experts, educational interactives and experiences are all designed to open the doors to the broad possibilities of STEM education for people of all ages. The center is also recognized for fun and engaging educational programs unique to greater Houston's educational ecosystem, with resources that reach students and educators around the world. As a nonprofit educational institution, not a government agency or government funded, Space Center Houston relies on ticket sales, program revenue, memberships and generous donations to sustain itself as a community asset. Your donations directly support our extraordinary educational programs like the Title 1 School Visit Program, Distance Learning and Space Center U® Beyond, which help us extend and expand our reach. Every dollar, from $5 to $5,000, fuels our drive to engage, inspire and educate. * Space Center Houston offers a rich array of education programming for teachers as well as students. In 2021, our education staff supported 1,058 K-12 educators from 27 countries and 46 states with year-long, on-demand access to 109 sessions, presentations, virtual field experiences and networking activities through our Space Exploration Educators Conference (SEEC). * In 2021, 191 girls ages 11-16 benefited from participation in Space Center U® Beyond. * Our education programs are based on data-supported evidence of effective learning and teaching methods. * We reached more than 250,000 students and educators last year.
