Mission Statement
The MPVA PTO (formerly PTO of Johnston Middle School) is formed for the purpose of: a.) building collaborative partnerships among families, staff, and the community of Meyerland PVA Middle School (“MPVA”), and b.) for the purpose of engaging in student learning, creating a climate that supports the academic, creativity and social-emotional health of students, with a commitment to inclusiveness and equity.
About This Cause
MPVA PTO (formerly PTO of Johnston Middle School) is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to supporting our Title I public middle school in Houston, Texas, by providing essential resources for arts education. We bridge financial gaps to create an inclusive environment fostering student participation, regardless of financial ability. Our programming mission has three parts: 1. Student Incentives: This includes fundraising to provide art supplies, musical instruments, and performance attire. MPVA PTO hosts student events from luncheons, field trips and dances and we also maintain a 'fairy godmother closet' for dance attire. We prioritize inclusivity for every student, including our substantial special education students. 2. Teacher Supports: We empower our educators with resources, professional development, and grants, acknowledging their crucial role in nurturing young talent. 3.Community Engagement: We actively engage the community through fundraising, outreach, and partnerships to advocate for arts education for all students in the Houston community. To recruit for new students, we are reaching out to historically underserved communities with the assistance of language and cultural liaisons. We also recognize that there are many unmet needs within our community and strive to provide needed resources for families. At MPVA PTO, we foster a loving, inclusive community where individual uniqueness is celebrated, and kindness is our cornerstone. Our culture emphasizes mutual support and care, making us more than an arts education support system – we are a family, nurturing and celebrating authenticity in every individual.
