About This Cause
The Education and Charities Foundation of Houston (ECFOH) is concerned about the high cost of attending college for economically disadvantaged students. These young students and their parents are faced with paying for tuition, room & board (or apartment), a laptop, books, food service, and student service and technology fees each year. Because of their economic circumstances, the students and their families are hard-pressed to take out loans to help pay for college. Consequently, meeting the high cost of a college education becomes an almost insurmountable burden. The ECFOH is committed to providing scholarship aid to economically disadvantaged students in an effort to help ease some of the burden of paying for college. The Education and Charities Foundation of Houston funds three critical need areas: 1. Providing scholarship aid for graduating seniors from the Greater Houston Community. This assistance is designed to help lessen the financial stress of paying for college for students and their families. These funds allow students to attend and succeed in college; and ultimately in life. 2. Providing financial support to a Guide Right Program which trains, mentors, and educates disadvantaged high school aged boys. ECFOH also sponsors an annual spring break college tour to introduce young men to various colleges in the south and up thru the Carolinas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. 3. Providing meals through its Thanksgiving and Christmas Day-of-Caring Programs for hundreds of Houston’s needy families through partnerships with area grocery stores and the Houston Food Bank.
