Mission Statement

Palo Alto Chinese School was founded in 1963 and is one of the oldest Chinese language schools in the Bay Area. Our mission is to teach Chinese language and culture and provides Chinese language learning environment that is purely educational, nonprofit, nonpartisan, and equal regardless of ethnic group, color, religion, nationality, gender, age and political beliefs.

About This Cause

Palo Alto Chinese School offers two tracks of language instructions: 1. Mandarin class offered to heritage students whose parents are native Chinese speakers from Preschool to 12th grade. 2. Chinese as a Second Language class (CSL) offered to students who has no Chinese background, from Preschool to 8th grade. Our school is in session from late August to late May, basically following the calendar adopted by Palo Alto Unified School District. Class time is 7 - 9 PM on Friday evenings. In 2014-2015 school year, there are 9 CSL classes, 23 Mandarin classes as well as 2 Calligraphy classes. Palo Alto Chinese School is run by a Board of parents, who all work as volunteers without compensation. The school replies on parents in all aspects of school operations, including, but not limited to, teacher recruiting, curriculum design, student admissions, class placement, school finance record keeping, teacher payroll processing, school activities support, school website and technology support, campus safety patrol, community liason, etc.
