Mission Statement

Our New Name: Bayshore Christian Ministries (BCM) changed its name to Hope Horizon East Palo Alto on March 1, 2022. While this change is approved by the California Secretary of State, we are waiting for the IRS to catch up. Meanwhile, your gifts to BCM will still reach us. Our Tax ID # will remain the same. The mission of Hope Horizon East Palo Alto is to equip east-of-Bayshore youth to grow spiritually, gain life skills and develop as leaders so they have hope and a future.

About This Cause

Since its founding in 1984, the mission of Hope Horizon East Palo Alto (formerly Bayshore Christian Ministries) has been to equip the youth of East Palo Alto and the Belle Haven neighborhood of eastern Menlo Park to grow spiritually, gain life skills and develop as leaders so they have hope and a future. With the support of our partners--individuals, churches, and foundations--Hope Horizon East Palo Alto continues to grow and impact the lives of East Palo Alto youth, serving close to 350 youth each year. Our vision is to disciple the next generation of community leaders who will lead in their homes, workplaces and communities. We do this through programs that are wholistic, relational and collaborative. Our students face a wide variety of challenges related to poverty. This has been true since the city was incorporated in 1983. Many Hope Horizon EPA students are the children of immigrants, learning English as a second language and receiving minimal academic support at home. Our youth are experiencing financial pressure due to a lack of affordable housing and a higher rate of unemployment than surrounding communities. Almost all of our students come from groups under-represented in higher education and professional careers and many are (or will be) the first in their family to graduate high school. We believe in the wholistic growth of a child. For almost 40 years, our programs have cultivated hope and a stronger future for all the youth we serve. We currently operate academic, faith-based and leadership development programs. While there is some overlap of our leadership development and faith-based programs, our academic enrichment programs are separate and do not have a religious component. These academic programs include: • Elementary Academics -- After-school and summer enrichment program serving 1st-5th grade students • Middle School Academics -- After school and summer STEAM programs • Robotics -- Robotics coaching and competition for K-12 students, including Sumo Bots, FLL (First Lego League) and FRC (First Robotics Competition) Leadership opportunities exist within each program. Additionally, we hire high school students and grads as part of our staff, particularly during the summer months.
