Mission Statement
Guadalupe River Park Conservancy offers a unique team building environment for your group that incorporates Guadalupe River Park & Gardens' Heritage Rose Garden, three-acre Historic Orchard, hiking and biking trails, Guadalupe River and much more. We will work with you to find the right project for your group, then provide an introduction and orientation as well as training that day. Our year round activities can last three hours or a full day and vary depending on the season and current needs. We are able to accommodate just about any sized group!
About This Cause
Mission: Guadalupe River Park Conservancy (GRPC) provides community leadership for the development and active use of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens - San Jose's central park - through education, advocacy and stewardship. Vision: GRPC is helping to create an iconic and vibrant public space that adds to the quality of life in San Jose and helps to attract businesses, residents, and visitors to a thriving downtown. Guadalupe River Park Conservancy's programs are directly tied to the education, advocacy, and stewardship mission. While GRPC education programs include gardening and healthy lifestyle classes for adults, the emphasis is on science-based children’s programs – field trips for K-5 public and private schools and children with special needs, after-school workshops and summer day camps for Boys & Girls Club members, and small group programs for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other community-based groups. We solicit grant funds to underwrite programs for students from Title One schools. During the last school year, GRPC served 4,611 students. Advocacy includes producing annual events that draw people to the park (Pumpkins in the Park, a family friendly festival, and a new Super Bowl Sunday 10K/5K run), advocating for river-friendly policies such as the single-use bag and polystyrene bans, providing assistance to the City on park development issues, and maintaining a base of public support through an e-newsletter and an informative website with program and volunteer opportunities. In 2013, GRPC coordinated over 16,000 volunteer hours – from both individuals and corporate employees who came for team building or service days. Some volunteers helped with office work, festivals, and minor construction. Our stewardship efforts engage volunteers to help with the upkeep of the Heritage Rose Garden, Historic Orchard, and the adoption of the river from Coleman Ave to Hwy 880 through Santa Clara Valley Water District’s Adopt a Creek program.
