Mission Statement

The Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries (FMCFL) believes in the power of libraries to enrich and change the lives of Monterey County residents, each of whom deserves equal access to information that will open windows to a larger world. FMCFL’s mission is to assure and accelerate the mission of the MCFL system by providing resources and outreach.

About This Cause

Founded in 1989, the Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries (FMCFL) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which helps local libraries, including those in the most rural sections of our county, to operate year-round child literacy programs. Our financial support is critical to the full implementation of these programs which are open to all children, including those from the most vulnerable populations. The Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries provides all of the funding for Homework Centers in 10 locations, including the online tutoring service, and some funding for a County-wide Summer Reading program. These programs, free and open to all, are Building Literacy One Child at a Time.
