About This Cause
Wildlife Care of So Cal is a wildlife rehabilitation organization founded in 1994 by a group of individuals who saw with increasing regularity the need for the proper care of our native wildlife. Holding State, Federal, USDA and City permits since 1996 Wildlife Care of Southern California (Formerly Wildlife Care of Ventura County) is a non profit 501C3 organization. We take in over 1,000 Injured and Orphaned wild animals annually from LA and Ventura Counties rehabilitate them and release them back into the wild: birds of prey, corvids, songbirds, bobcats, coyotes, raccoons, opossums and squirrels. Many of these animals are victims of poisoning, cars, dog or cat attack’s, and human cruelty. All are victims of urbanization. Our main service areas are: a) Wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release b)Public education and research concerning all urban wildlife. c)Working closely with Fish and Wildlife on emerging diseases. 20 years ago there was no where to take an injured wild animal, other than to the shelter to be euthanized.” Today because of organizations such as this, animals are being rescued, rehabilitated and released back into the wild and people are being educated on urban wildlife behavior. Today our native wild animals are not being euthanized from lack of knowledge, but they could be from lack of funds. There are no City, State or Federal agencies that offer the services that we do or fund us financially in our efforts in caring for these animals. WCSC operates in tandem with many local government and other agencies most of whom lack the necessary man power and resources to handle injured and orphaned wildlife. Wildlife Care of SoCal fills this critical gap by providing humane and education-based assistance and responding to wildlife related issues in the field.
