Mission Statement
Grail Family Services (GFS) partners with families, schools and communities to promote children's success and well-being.
About This Cause
GFS creates a strong start for children - from birth - by: 1) providing direct services that support the healthy development of children ages 0-6 years; 2) providing parents with the tools, knowledge and skills to support their children's success in school and in life; and 3) providing training and support to childcare providers and teachers who work directly with children ages 0-6 years. We have been serving families with young children in East San Jose for more than 22 years. Over the past two decades, we have identified and addressed multiple critical community needs – early literacy, English language acquisition, parenting skills, oral language development, early math, family engagement, economic mobility, and access to early care and education. We involve the families we serve in the design, development, and evaluation of our programs to ensure that we are meeting their evolving needs. We serve approximately 3000 families annually through quality programs at our Family Resource Center and at elementary schools in the Alum Rock Union School District, through our two State-funded Preschools, our professional development of childcare providers and teachers, and our Building Blocks of Parenting™ (BBP) App. We are promoting family engagement and early math with families of young children through a partnership - Family Math - with the DREME Network (Development and Research in Early Math Education) at Stanford University. We are helping our community recover from the financial impact of the COVID pandemic as a lead organization in the local implementation (Jobs to Grow) of a 3-year national Mobility LABs initiative. GFS is providing professional development and support services to community residents who want to start their own home childcare business. This fall we will launch a State-funded Infant/Toddler Childcare Program. We are addressing a critical need in San Jose for quality childcare and early education. Evaluation is a key component of our organizational culture. We use a number of research-based tools to evaluate the effectiveness of our programs, and to ensure that we are continuously improving.
