Mission Statement
We are looking for corporate sponsors to partner up with SOEP to help support our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Lab. The STEAM Lab is well equipped with instruments and tools, has a dedicated and well-loved instructor, and many parent volunteers. I am writing to you, to request funds to help us operate this Lab. Just like everything else, it takes lot of money to run this Lab. It takes $150K to operate this lab with an instructor full time. This year our parents have been able to raise $70K and need your help in raising the remaining $80K. Will you help us achieve our funding goals so that we can keep our STEAM Lab running for our students with a full time instructor?. Any amount will go a long way in keeping our Lab open for the coming year.
About This Cause
SOEP is a non-profit that operates exclusively for charitable and educational purposes that supports critical art, music, and science programs at Silver Oak Elementary School. Without the support from SOEP, these programs would not be available for students because of lack of school funding. We are looking for cooperate sponsors to partner up with SOEP to help support our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Lab. Project based STEAM style education has many benefits. It fosters critical thinking, creative problem-solving skills , encourages group based collaboration and bridges the gender gap in tech and science by exposing girls to STEAM topics. Children also learn to see art in a different way, how it is used in technology and in everyday life. Being in a high tech area, a lack in STEAM education would be detrimental to students, especially ones who might consider STEAM as a career. It is vital that we, as a society, can provide access to this type of well rounded and empowered education for the future workforce. Two years back, Silver Oak elementary parents felt that along with conventional style of teaching, project based education should be provided to our students. They raised funds to start a STEAM Lab at our school. It is a very hands-on, minds-on Lab. Students look forward to Lab time each week and take great pride in keeping their Lab neat and clean. In a recent informal survey, students voted Lab as most fun time in school, even above recess!. They also request extra sessions in the STEAM Lab as reward from class teachers for achieving any milestones set for them in classrooms. We also host Maker Faire and Science night showcasing their inventions. In addition to these benefits to the students, our teachers get an opportunity to get hands on practice in adopting the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) - project based teaching curriculum our school district intends to adopt in near future. Hence our teachers are ahead of the game!. Please support our STEAM Lab!
