The mission of the Fresno Mission is to rescue, restore, and empower through Christ-centered communities of transformation.
About This Cause
The Fresno Mission rescues, restores, and empowers those who are homeless or facing life insecurities by creating relationships and communities that transform lives from the inside out. Not only do we provide housing and meals to the homeless, but we also provide educational opportunities, jobs, spiritual renewal, counseling, and provide provable methods that reconnect them with family, friends, and the community. Since 1949, the Fresno Mission has been housing and feeding the homeless. Originally started as a simple homeless shelter that gave food and bed to the street homeless run by a single person, the Fresno Mission has grown into a leading force of change throughout the Central Valley of California. Now, not only do we house and feed hundreds of chronic homeless men and women, but we run 12-18 month long programs ending addiction, reducing poverty, increasing education through GEDs, teaching parenting classes and finding sustainable housing and jobs for thousands of people each year. The Fresno Mission was founded as a non-profit organization. Our services are free and available to all without discrimination. We are a community benefit organization fully funded by donations from individuals, companies, foundations, churches, and service organizations without government funding. We are a Christ-centered organization that believes real life transformation begins with relationships and spiritual renewal. Originally called the Fresno Rescue Mission, we changed our name to be the Fresno Mission. We didn’t remove rescue from our purpose, but rather expanded everything we do! 98% of our clientele are in the low-moderate range. Many of the individuals who come to the Fresno Mission lack the basic education and skills to acquire and maintain gainful employment. They often do not have any work experience, may have a criminal background, might not have a high school diploma or GED and/or have no personal motivation. Many have made poor choices that have resulted in their current position or may have been raised in environments that perpetuate dependence on social services and public assistance.
