Mission Statement

We seek to empower and inspire all young people with diabetes to live active and dream BIG.

About This Cause

Chris Dudley founded the Chris Dudley Foundation (CDF) in 1994 after retiring from a 16 year NBA career. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age sixteen, Chris defied odds to achieve his greatest dream of becoming an accomplished professional athlete, despite the medical obstacles and challenges. CDF offers educational programs, advocacy and research assistance to the diabetes community. We believe that all youth with diabetes deserve encouragement to live long, healthy lives. Our internationally renowned, week-long residential basketball camp in rural Oregon provides a one-of-a-kind, transformative experience for youth with T1D. Youth enjoy a vigorous sport; practice responsible diabetes self-management; boost confidence; and join an ongoing supportive, peer-to-peer network. Chris Dudley is on staff daily, interacting personally with every camper. Attending Camp has a powerful, long-lasting impact on youth. For the first time, they are able to take meaningful ownership of their condition, and to see their diabetes as an opportunity. With newfound hope and skills, they successfully combat the feelings of isolation and despair that commonly accompany a T1D diagnosis, and are inspired to pursue their dreams. We actively fund raise year round in order to meet campers' demonstrated financial need.
