Mission Statement

Life Is Washable, Inc. provides programs which strengthen the special needs community. Our organization focuses on the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities while encouraging family engagement and community interaction. We deliver our mission through a variety of programs which consider the goals of the individual, family and caregiver with a creative approach in a supportive atmosphere. Our organization embraces the many supports in a special needs individual’s life (i.e. therapies, rehabilitations and education) and works to balance the special needs of the individual with the family. The impact of our organization reaches well beyond the individuals and families we serve; our larger community connects to our mission through volunteer service and financial support of our programs. Since our beginning in 2006, our programs have grown to meet the evolving needs of our community while staying true to our mission of “Helping Special Needs Families… Creatively!”

About This Cause

Life Is Washable, Inc. (DBA The Magic Paintbrush Project and/or createABLE) provides a variety of types of sessions focused on providing creative supports and opportunities for individuals with special needs and their families. Since our beginning, our workshops/session to be flexible in order to effectively meet the needs of those we serve in a variety of ways. As a result, we have experienced an increase in session requests and collaboration with community partners. Our multiple locations, program developments and cost effectiveness have supported sustainable growth and positive outcomes for our organization and our community. For long-term sustainability of the funded programs, the effectiveness will be measured through an active feedback and documentation process. The impact of the funding will be reported to the Foundation. CreateABLE’s programs include: Fair Play – This unique program actively partners sports teams such as: the Mets (Baseball), American Special Hockey Association, Binghamton Devil, Binghamton Jr. Senators and Binghamton University Athletics (Basketball, Soccer, Tennis and Swim). Each session focused on supporting individuals with special needs and families to safely attend community events, explore their interests, and “Try” a new physical activity which may have been challenging to them. The program works closely with peers in the community, for a fully integrated experience which fosters positive relationships and builds peer and community relationships. This program partners close with Binghamton University Athletics to provide volunteer opportunity for student athletes. The result for all is increased self advocacy and confidence. “TwoGather” – This program connects friends (ages 7-17) with and without special needs while they explore their interests with fun activities. Making new friends and welcoming everyone leaves no child “left out” or struggling with learning new social skills or communicating. This program supports typical and special needs kids by pairing them up and supporting them as they build friendships and explore their interests. With a variety of groups and interests (Music, Arts, Gaming, Sports, Cooking, etc.) this program includes everyone to build friendships and self esteem. “Best Buddies” – This program partners with the Binghamton University Chapter of Best Buddies to connect friends (ages 18 and up) with and without special needs while they explore their interests with fun activities. Friendly Access Sensory Safety Kits – Friendly Access delivers Sensory Safety Kits to performance and sports venues. These kits are meant to support individuals of all ages with sensory needs (i.e. Autism, Neurological Impairment, Dementia, etc.) as they enjoy the event. In addition to the kit availability, this program provides meaningful job opportunities for individuals with special needs. You can find our kits locally at the Binghamton University Events Center, Floyd Maines Veterans Memorial Arena & Forum Stage, Carrier Dome, The Great NY State Fair, as well as venues across the country from the Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C. to the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.
