Mission Statement
MISSION STATEMENT: Friends4Pets was founded in 2009 and is a non profit 501c3 animal rescue. We originally began our rescue in order to lessen the number of homeless pets at animal shelters and have found loving homes for over 400 Pets. F4P provides all necessary veterinary care, housing and rehabilitation before finding pets their forever home. Animals deemed un-adoptable will live out their lives at F4P. In 2015, F4P expanded to include exotic parrots. We have created a one of a kind Parrot Rescue building and aviary for adoptable and un-adoptable parrots. Parrots are intelligent and long living birds that can be demanding, both of time and attention of their caregivers. F4P accepts abused and neglected birds and birds relinquished by their owners. Other birds may be acquired from owners who passed away. Public education is a very important part of mission. Everyone needs to know the reality of pet over-population, the heart-breaking number of Homeless pets and the importance of spaying or neutering to lessen this overwhelming problem. Furthermore, strive to educate the public about the longevity and difficulties of keeping large parrots as pets. We spotlight the benefits of adopting vs buying any pet from a breeder or pet store. Donations made through Friends4Pets will help us raise funds for aviaries, housing for animals, vet cost, daily maintenance and fund future expansion. All donations are tax deductible and 100% of the proceeds will be used for the purpose stated above.
About This Cause
Friends4Pets is a 501c3 animal rescue that specializes in rescuing and caring for parrots, dogs and all small animals. We receive animals through local shelters and individuals. Whenever possible, finding these animals new forever homes and providing all necessary veterinary care. We also provide a safe comfortable permanent home/sanctuary for any animals that are not suitable for adoption. Why a parrot rescue and sanctuary? In the 1980's, large hookbills such as macaws, cockatoos and amazon parrots were considered the ultimate pet. Parrots are colorful, clever birds that can learn to talk and possibly live 50 to a 100 years! Sounds like the perfect companion right? Unfortunately that just isn't so. Anyone caring for a large hookbill has learned through experience that parrots are one of the most difficult pets to manage. Parrots can often be very demanding of both time and attention of their caregivers. These birds quickly learn to squawk, bite, screech, and destroy furniture in an attempt to get their needs met. Acts of desperation on the part of the bird often lead to neglect or abuse. A garage or a dark bedroom is not a suitable environment for these intelligent and social birds! Many parrots are relinquished to animal shelters. F4P receives parrots from animal shelters that need rescue and rehabilitation. In stark contrast, there are many people who have embraced their colorful feathered friends as treasured part of their families for decades. Over the years, a reoccurring concern and question of those that know the special care and attention it takes to properly care for parrots is "what will happen if my bird(s) outlive me or I am no longer able to take care of them"? These are some of the reasons why we developed Friends4Pets Parrot Rescue and Sanctuary.
