Mission Statement
Only one in three Ethiopians has access to clean water and while thirteen percent have adequate sanitation services available to them. Waterborne ailments claim the lives of thousands of people in Ethiopia each year and over fifty percent of children under the age of five die from illnesses caused by unsanitary water. The lack of immediate access to clean water has other consequences as well. Ethiopian women and children spend hours carrying water from distant sources, and children are often absent or drop out of school because of the responsibility and constant exposure to water-related illnesses. Our humanitarian effort is to provide clean water and proper sanitation for Ethiopian villages and reduce the incidence of water borne diseases in the targeted areas. Access to clean water enables women and the larger community to live healthier, more productive lives.
About This Cause
Stream of Hope Inc. is an organization founded by a few concerned Ethiopian Americans who live in Dallas, Houston and Oklahoma City. The mission of the organization is to provide clean water and proper sanitation for rural Ethiopian villages. The first project provided funds to supply clean water and proper sanitation for two villages in the southeastern region of Ethiopia in 2010. The 2nd project raised funds to provide clean water for four villages in Gurage zone cheha woreda Abert Kebele. To date Stream of Hope Inc. provided 35 clean water supply projects in six regions of Ethiopia. These projects reportedly reduced the incidence of waterborne diseases in the target areas. Access to clean water enables women and the larger community to live healthier, more productive lives. The projects also provided trainings and education on hygiene and sanitation practices to enhance the health status of those targeted households. Stream of Hope Inc. is committed to continue to raise funds to provide the rural areas of Ethiopia access to clean drinking water and access to adequate sanitation services One Village At A Time!
