Mission Statement
The Mission Statement of The Beehive International, Inc. is to bring every power at our command to assist the work of training the world's masses. This will be done through training in sustainable organic agriculture, plant based culinary arts, basic business training, carpentry, metal works, mechanics, and other necessary skills to equip an individual for the duties of a healthy, productive life. Our vision in Haiti is to educate men and women with a skill set that will not only provide for their families, but will allow them to be responsible members contributing to their society. In support of our mission statement; The Beehive International has remodeled 12 orphanages bringing drinking water, restrooms, showers, beds, mattresses, food deliveries, school tuition and small business training to over 500 children. We have a woodshop classroom training program teaching 30 people the skill of furniture production. 90% of our 1000 unique furniture products are made from recycled shipping pallets.
About This Cause
Our Mission: Why does The Beehive International, Inc. exist? The Beehive International, Inc. is an outreach and long-term relief effort in response to the 2010 earthquake and its aftermath. The Project is part of the larger international focus of The Beehive organization. The Haiti project mission is to support Haitian children left orphaned by the earthquake, create economic and sustainable development opportunities for the local community, train and educate the local community; and collaborate with international groups desiring to support The Beehive. Impact Statement Shortly after the devastating earthquake, two missionaries went to Haiti to assist in the relief effort. While serving in the local hospital volunteering in whatever capacity they were needed, they noticed that there was a growing number of orphans. It was that experience that birthed the work of The Beehive. In 2011 funds from divested US assets were used to start very basic and modest orphanages. Five to seven children were sleeping sideways on one homemade bunk bed, while others were sleeping on thin mats on the dirt floor. There was no indoor plumbing, very little food, very little clothing, and many other challenges. Today, with the help of numerous volunteers and faithful, benevolent supporters, The Beehive has several programs that support its mission and vision. From 2011 to Present: The Beehive offers on-going support to "Mexny’s" orphanage which is located just outside of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It cares for 13 -18 children and is a community outreach center. We raise and invest an average of $20,000 annually to send the children to school and improve their quality of life. We provide and deliver monthly food, wages for support staff, water, medical and dental care. The orphanage has a garden where each child is responsible for growing and maintaining a portion. We have seen the lives of these children go from lethargic, malnourished babies to children that can play, learn, and care for the gardens we have built. They know how to plant seeds and care for them to enjoy the food that is produced. The Beehive operates a City Mission in PAP. This 2 acre location supports a guest house that can sleep up to 20 people. Here our woodshop classroom program is open 6 days a week. Future plans are to expand and grow the school which would help create more jobs and increase the employable work force. The property has a community garden with a nursery and fruit trees. The Beehive fully supports and embraces cultural identity and diversity. The non-native leaders have immersed themselves in the local culture by learning the native language and customs. To further help the local community in becoming more qualified for job opportunities The Beehive offers English classes. English is fast becoming a requirement for most jobs in this country. The Beehive owns a country property, “The Pearl”, located in Bohoc, Haiti. This farm of 32 acres, is an agricultural classroom for the surrounding neighbors. This location is also the final destination for our volunteer groups. An estimated 1,200 visitors have been hosted since 2011 with an average of 4-6 medical/dental/vision clinics conducted annually. Jonathan Euler, Director of International Development for The Beehive International, Inc. states, "We are building on this site as fast as funds become available. The idea of the country property is to develop a school where the youth of Haiti can be taught sustainable farming and grow their own food, learn carpentry, small engine mechanics etc. to support themselves". "The needs on the country property are so great - the people live in shacks, barely have anything to eat, have no running water for miles, sleep on dirt floors, cook with charcoal, and are hot during the day and cold during the night. The town leaders cried when they found out we were there to help them, as they have lived their entire lives with no aid of any kind. The road we have cut by machete to the property has allowed for emergency help by vehicle, states Jonathan". Charting Impact The Beehive International, Inc.'s long-term goal is to empower local leaders to care for vulnerable children within their community with sustainable solutions. These solutions provide long-term access to nutrition, basic health care, education, life skills training, safe housing, and more efficient agricultural methods. The plans and strategies which will allow us to accomplish our long-term goals are to support the existing orphanages and buildings; providing the children with proper nutrition and health care; preparing students to compete for skilled jobs in the work force; creating economic development through building more vocational schools as well as expanding existing schools; developing partnerships with institutions such as businesses, schools, and universities. On the country property we have had as many as 100 Haitian men and women working at one time on construction projects - learning invaluable skills. Here we utilize local contractors, when possible, to provide employment and training of local workers. This year, 2017, our main project has been to construct an outdoor kitchen. Our new kitchen will serve as a cooking and training center for the ladies in our community. A Villager Sun Oven was donated to The Beehive this year, which gives us the ability to feed between 300-400 people per day as well as producing up to 100 loaves of healthy bread. Our goal is to teach food preparation and nutrition, proper sanitation, water purification and personal hygiene. We have planted 300 fruit trees of 23 varieties, all hand watered while we continue to raise funds for a well. Haiti is a very difficult country to help due to the lack of infrastructure. If we need food, baking dishes, pots and pans, shovels, screws, cordless tools etc. they must be purchased in the US and flown in our luggage to Haiti. Volunteers bring precious medical supplies, tools, food and clothing to nourish the people. Following hurricane Matthew this year The Beehive rebuilt and re-roofed three homes in the Les Cayes area that were destroyed by mud slide. "This was possibly the most difficult community outreach project I have ever done in my 7 years in Haiti", states Jonathan. "The roads were washed out, there was no food, clean water, no place to sleep and the properties we were trying to reach required crossing a river while carrying all of our building materials over our heads and then climbing up hill for 3/4 of a mile". The Beehive International, Inc. has responded to every national disaster that the Haitian people have gone through since 2010. From the earthquake to tropical storms, drought, and hurricanes we have been there to assist the people. The Beehive has so fully immersed itself in assisting the Haitian people with day-to-day challenges, they have gained the respect, trust, and support of the local community and government. We have a long-term commitment to continuing our humanitarian efforts in Haiti. We have established partnerships with many international groups and organizations that also care for the future of Haiti. The original founders of The Beehive International, Inc. have made Haiti their home and are fully vested in the vision of this great cause.
