About This Cause
Equality Federation Institute is an advocacy accelerator rooted in social justice, building power in our network of state-based lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) advocacy organizations. In 1997, these organizations came together to harness their collective knowledge and power. Since then, Equality Federation (Institute) has become the leading movement builder, national network, and strategic partner to our 40+ member organizations. Collectively, our state partner network mobilizes more than 2 million supporters across the country to advance equality and justice. “From Equality Florida to Freedom Oklahoma to Basic Rights Oregon, we amplify the power of the state-based LGBTQ+ movement.” The greatest opportunities for victories to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people are in the states—where the work is hard but the impact is great. Our Advocacy and Civic Engagement program works collaboratively with our member organizations to maximize state advocacy on critical issues, mobilize the people power needed to create change, and set an expansive policy agenda to address our entire community’s needs. Winning equality and justice is a marathon, not a sprint. That’s why our Leadership and Organizational Development program prioritizes developing strong leaders with the skills to win, connecting movement advocates to learn and strategize together, and building powerful organizations that grow and thrive. Our work is rooted in a deep commitment to racial justice and a recognition that we must confront and seek to disrupt racism in our communities to truly achieve equality. We won’t stop until all LGBTQ+ people are fully empowered and represented in their communities and experience full equality in their lives.
