About This Cause
Minds Matter is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization that seeks to enable bright and motivated students to achieve academic excellence by helping them overcome barriers inhibiting their opportunity for post-secondary education. Minds Matter fulfills this mission by recruiting academically promising low-income students from under-resourced inner-city Detroit schools and pairing them with volunteer mentors. This recruiting is done early on in their high school career so that students are followed through most of high school and given ample opportunities to develop the skills needed for their future. Mentoring is provided within a college access/success curricular framework designed to fulfill the organization’s ultimate objective of preparing participants to gain admission to, enroll in, and be successful at four-year college.
