Mission Statement
We have celebrated our first round of success by sending five students to represent Liberia in the Olympics of Robotics in Louisville, KY. The students learned so much and we will continue to program by expanding to a new school this fall, 2017. Post-conflict Liberia, West Africa is developing an educational standard in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) that is competitive with the rest of the world. Wahjay wants Liberian students to envision themselves as an asset to their community and equip them with the resources that will enable them to make their vision tangible via STEM. Your financial contribution provides real opportunities for our participating students. We extend you an invitation to join us on our YouTube page to get more information, by searching for ‘Wahjay STEM’.
About This Cause
Wahjay – STEM is a fundraising entity based in the USA and provides science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to Liberian students via robotics education provided by the Robotics Education Curriculum (REC). Wahjay is a Bassa word in Liberia, West Africa that means, for the sake of the people. Liberians in West Africa are looking for opportunities to avoid the hardships that arise from low literacy, poor mathematic aptitude, and poor technological skills. STEM curriculum is a gateway to fields in accounting, telecommunications, engineering, graphic design, medicine, teaching, and other areas. STEM curriculum in Liberia addresses the persistent cause of generational poverty which leads to many other social and economy problems. Wahjay – STEM has prepared a program for students at the World Wide Mission Academy and Buchanan Demonstration School for each student to develop practical & scientific knowledge to create robots. Specifically, students will work hands-on in teams to design, build, and program a VEX Robot while learning about beginner level computer programming, math, and engineering concepts. Wahjay wants Liberian students to envision themselves as an asset to their community and equip them with the resources that will enable them to make their vision tangible. Your financial contribution provides real opportunities for our participating students.
