About This Cause

Macal Raptor Center and Avian Sanctuary(MRCAAS) is the US based 501(c)3 supporting organization for the Belize Raptor Center(BRC). 100 percent of funds raised through MRCAAS is allocated to BRC to continue their mission of inspiring conservation of birds of prey by educating the local community on the importance of apex predators in the ecosystems in Belize. BRC does daily onsite educational programs at their facility, as well as zoom lessons and in school presentations with none releasable ambassadors. There is an onsite avian clinic stocked with an x-ray machine for rehabilitation patients. The goal for rehabilitation is to get the patient back to health and released back into the wild, some birds are not able to return to the wild and are then assessed for potential ambassadors for their species. If the bird is willing and able it will join the BRC team for onsite and offsite educational programs. Sanctuary for none releasable birds is for the lifetime of the ambassador. BRC has many ongoing conservation projects, one is working with local farming communities and implementing natural pest control using pre-made cavity nests for Barn Owls. The second project is Help Save Belize Wildlife: Orange Breasted Falcon. This project is backed by The Peregrine Fund and Wolf Creek Charitable Foundation and its purpose is to help raise awareness about the drastically declining populations of the second rarest falcon in the World, the Orange Breasted Falcon.
