Mission Statement
The Now Boarding Corporation is a nonprofit organization determined to increase annual study abroad rates among minority male youth across the United States. Based in Los Angeles, this organization will target high school teenagers from lower economic backgrounds. Currently, African American males make up less than 2% of annual study abroad statistics among undergraduate students in the United States. The Now Boarding Corporation will offer unique opportunities for minority males to embark on culturally enhancing experiences with no out of pocket expense.
About This Cause
The Now Boarding Corporation will educate youth on the benefits of studying abroad in college and prepare them with the necessary tools to achieve these tasks prior to college enrollment. Our focus will be to exponentially increase study abroad rates among minority males throughout the country. Through The Now Boarding Corporation, we will be able to engage students in a one-of-a-kind travel program that offers them experiences that were previously out of reach. Selected students will engage in a year-long program that includes seminars on international travel, culture and lifestyle of selected destination, international business and cultural immersion in their home cities. After completion of the home-based program, students will travel during the month of August to the destination that they have spent the year learning about. While abroad they will engage in community service activities, visit landmarks and historical sites and potential universities that offer study abroad programs. Students will also be given access to programming focused on college preparation, entrepreneurship, and professional development. We provide an opportunity for selected youth to spend the year learning and exploring life outside of their current surroundings, opening their minds to new future possibilities and ways of life. We then take students on a trip abroad to further expand their minds and eliminate the illusion of limitations on their lives. Initially, we will be able to see children take in new experiences and learn about all the world has to offer. Eventually, we will see communities of children who believe that where they come from does not have to dictate who they can become. We hope that these experiences along with our continued assistance will promote students to study abroad during their collegiate careers and increase the annual rate of minorities studying abroad in the United States and entering the international workforce after graduation. To broaden the minds of minority male youth through travel to promote education and exploration from a variety of cultural perspectives.
