Mission Statement
The Massage in Schools Program (MISP) teaches healthy touch to children ages 2 - 12, and their families in schools, homes and in their community. Using peer massage (bunny hops in a friends hand or drawing hearts on their back), story (kinesthetic) massage, and active learning of all school subjects, MISP is not only fun but research based and working in over 40 countries! The program uses nurturing touch techniques to reduce stress and create connections between peers and families. Children learn consent, boundaries and stress relief. Children always ask for permission and their response is always respected. With the MISP, every day someone looks each child in the eye and connects with them, building friendships and validating their existence. The MISP is not only a great way to empower children and support the adults in their lives, it is a nationally recognized bullying reduction program as well.
About This Cause
The greatest need for the MISP is in low income schools, families with children who have experienced trauma such as adoptive families or foster care, or Native American reservations and families with children who have special needs. Fortunately, those are also the programs and families that see the most dramatic impact with the program. Unfortunately those are also the places that do not have the funds to train instructors or to implement the program or pay for parenting workshops. With your help we can make a substantial difference in the social emotional health of our children and communities. $325 can train an instructor to implement the program in an entire school. $7, 150 can train 22 new instructors and provide two new parenting workshops making a tremendous impact in an entire community!
