Mission Statement
The Center for Inclusive Entrepreneurship (CIE) helps people with limited resources in marginalized rural communities take the lead in creating a new economy through entrepreneurship. We meet people where they are, actively listen to their ideas and challenges, and offer them resources through training, counseling, and community-based networking opportunities. Leadership develops as they prepare and launch grow-ready microenterprises, move out of poverty, build wealth, and create jobs. Our vision is one of economically thriving rural places where we work with community members to promote uplifting solutions rooted in equity.
About This Cause
CIE core services consist of the following proven elements: -BUSINESS TRAINING: Accessible first-step classes with peers and business advisors that help participants quickly assess the feasibility of a new idea, develop strategies for testing their ideas in the market, and begin to build a foundation for long-term success. -BUSINESS COUNSELING: At the heart of CIE’s work is intensive, person-centered, and goal-focused one-on-one business counseling. Our experienced business advisers work with clients to address their specific skills, challenges, and ideas for building a grow-ready microenterprise. -MENTORING: CIE helps entrepreneurs connect with mentors for support, information, and service access. Our mentoring also includes networking events and office hours. where people can share stories, learn from each other, and collaborate to build the foundation for robust and local entrepreneurship ecosystems. CIE has helped nearly 2,600 emerging entrepreneurs overcome barriers. In 2018, the CIE board shifted the organization’s focus from the Puget Sound region to the critically underserved rural communities of Washington State, beginning with an office in Port Angeles serving Clallam and Jefferson Counties on the Olympic Peninsula. Despite the hardships of COVID-19, we opened an office in Mount Vernon to serve Skagit and Island Counties. We are now piloting our program in the Palouse and Columbia Basin.
