Mission Statement
The Friends of Newport News Fire Department, Inc., is a Virginia non-stock corporation, designated a 501(c)(3) charitable organization by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. Specifically, the FNNFD, through its operating arm, The Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association (CFAAA): (i) promotes the education of the community with respect to the mission and needs of the Newport News Fire Department, (ii) promotes morale, welfare and education of Newport News Fire Department personnel, and (iii) undertakes such actions and activities as shall contribute to and enhance a mutually beneficial relationship between the Newport News Fire Department and the citizens of Newport News and the business, civic and residential communities of the City of Newport News and those of the Virginia Peninsula and the greater Hampton
About This Cause
The Citizen Fire Academy Alumni Association as the operating arm of the Friends of Newport News Fire Department, Inc., is helping ... A. To bring together the graduates of the Newport News Citizen Fire Academy in support of the Newport News Fire Department in promoting awareness and education opportunities for fire/life safety; to aid NNFD, as requested, in support of fire service members and their families; and to facilitate interaction between the public and the NNFD. B. To provide administrative and logistical assistance to the NNFD staff in the presentation of the Citizen Fire Academy. C. To foster an understanding and appreciation of the broad spectrum of knowledge and skills that are necessary to be a member of the NNFD. This is accomplished by creating a well-informed cross section of citizens from our community by creating awareness opportunities, and to expose the complex nature of firefighting and rescue operations along with the benefits it provides to the community. D. The CFAAA provides citizens insight into how firefighters/paramedics perform their duties as well as how the department serves the community in a multitude of various functions. The CFAAA encourages CFA participants to return to their organizations, neighborhoods, and families to share information which will develop more fire/life safety-conscious citizens with an appreciation for NNFD personnel.
