Mission Statement
To provide a wholesome, peaceful center where individuals, families & especially children can be nurtured, supported and build community together. Midtown offers people access to connections and resources for realizing their value and full potential.
About This Cause
Midtown serves every member of the family, from the newborns in our Family PRIDE program to their grandmothers in our Midtown Mamas group. Midtown is able to accomplish our mission by focusing on a diverse lineup of interconnected programming: • Family PRIDE (Parent Resources, Infant Development and Environment) – To reduce the high infant mortality rate in St. Louis, which exceeds that of developing countries in some neighborhoods, Family PRIDE provides home visits, health and career workshops, free counseling, and doula services to pregnant women and new mothers as well as hosts playgroups for infants and toddlers. In 2023, 100 percent of babies in the program were born healthy. • Youth Development – Midtown offers afterschool youth programs, a weekly teen club and a summer camp program to children at-risk in the area. From STEAM programming and cooking classes to tutoring and college prep, kids boost their learning skills and their confidence. Seventy-five kids attended camp this past year with 45 enrolled in afterschool. • Adult Programming – The Midtown Mamas and Midtown Men’s Club participate in social activities, attend health and financial workshops, and volunteer in the communities where they live. • City Greens Community Garden – Midtown runs a ¼-acre community garden in a food desert where volunteers grow fresh produce to be sold at City Greens Market at or below cost. In addition, fresh fruits and vegetables are provided free of charge along with food boxes to elderly and disabled residents. The Garden also serves as an outdoor classroom for the children in our Youth Development program. In addition to these programs, Midtown hosts events throughout the year, including neighborhood clean-ups, health fairs and community get-togethers.
