Mission Statement

NERC is an independent nonprofit research center dedicated to improving access to quality education and workforce development for Neurodivergent humans. Stakeholders in the neurodiversity community rely on us to solve problems that demand an objective and multidisciplinary approach—one that integrates expertise across STEM education, social & emotional learning, and workforce development.

About This Cause

Combining K-12 expertise and teaching and learning designs, we deliver reliable models, thorough social & emotional support, innovative methods, novel technologies, and sustainable programs that help to inform public policy and ground practice in evidence. We believe in the promise of access to quality education for all, and we push ourselves every day to deliver on that promise for the good of people, communities, and businesses around the world. Science Prep Academy, is NERC’s flagship STEM private school that has validated our innovative research-based education model that is designed to support neurodivergent students transitioning into college and career. Science Prep Academy is breaking ground in the areas of teaching and learning, vocational training, mental health, and adaptive recreation for neurodivergent students. The Science Prep Academy includes a 13th year program that transitions high school students to the workforce by providing them with workforce development, vocational rehabilitation, and work experiences. Participants work full-time while receiving support from coaches and mentors with the intent to increase the number of autistic individuals that enter the workforce and post-secondary education. Our organization provides: 1. Get Fit and Special Olympics program. Our adaptive sports and fitness program helps increase activity and well-being in neurodivergent individuals. 2. FIRST Lego program. Helps our grades 6-9 students understand block planning and engineering while supporting socialization skills. 3. FIRST Tech program. Our grades 10-12 students get hands-on engineering, project management, testing and problem solving, and programming skills while learning the skills of coopetition and team work to accomplish objectives. 4. STEM education. We firmly believe our students will become scientists. 5. Workforce and college preparation. Threaded through our programs are the supports that help our students build their confidence and connections that increase future economic success.
