Limmud is committed to harnessing the energy of people from across the Jewish community - all ages, all religious affiliations and none - and from across the world.

About This Cause

Wherever you find yourself, Limmud will take you one step further on your Jewish journey. ABOUT LIMMUD What is Limmud?: Limmud ("learning" in Hebrew) is a worldwide movement, centered around innovative Jewish learning events, that started in the UK 35 years ago and has spread to 80+ communities in 40+ countries across the world, including--in January 2018--Seattle. Limmud is inspired, led, and run by volunteers and committed to harnessing the energy of people of all ages from across the Jewish community, whether affiliated or not. Limmud is based on a set of values that include diversity, choice and volunteerism. These values underpin every Limmud around the globe. What is Limmud's mission? "Wherever you find yourself, Limmud will take you one step further on your Jewish journey." Who presents at Limmud? Limmud presenters are: rabbis and professional educators; experts in their field; and knowledgeable attendees who are passionate about sharing their interest. This inclusive process is fundamental to Limmud and a reason for its wide appeal. What/when is "Limmud UK"? Limmud UK is the original Limmud event, a five-day experience held annually over Christmas (consider attending; it’s amazing! Dec. 24-28, 2017). In 2016, it attracted more than 2,800 attendees from the UK, US, Israel and around the world. ABOUT LIMMUD SEATTLE When is Limmud Seattle? Our target date is January 13-14, 2018 (Saturday evening after Shabbat + all day Sunday). Some programming will reflect themes of Martin Luther King Day, that Monday. How many people are expected? In our first year, we aim to attract 450 attendees that reflect the amazing vibrancy and diversity of the Seattle Jewish community - affiliated and unaffiliated. Who will present at Limmud Seattle? As with other Limmuds, our presenters will be: rabbis and professional educators; experts in their field; and knowledgeable attendees passionate about sharing their interest. Anyone can submit a proposal; proposals are vetted and selected by the program team. A handful of unique and/or well-known presenters will come from outside Seattle; others will be locally sourced. Who's planning Limmud Seattle? A diverse and growing team of volunteers passionate about creating an incredible experience for our community as well as their own learning and growth. How can more people get involved with Limmud Seattle? There are SO MANY ways to get involved, from now through the event: board, steering committee, planning teams (program, marketing, web/tech, facilities, volunteer development, participant care) and soiree hosts as well as advocates and ambassadors willing to spread the word. Join us! Who is leading Limmud Seattle efforts? The Limmud Seattle co-chairs are Deb Arnold and Robert Hovden, who after attending Limmud Vancouver came away inspired and determined to bring this amazing event to the Seattle area. Deb is active at both Kavana and Congregation Beth Shalom; Robert is active at Beth Shalom. Both are small business owners with an entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to making Limmud Seattle a model of diversity, choice and volunteerism for the entire Seattle Jewish community. Are we getting help from any other Limmud organization(s)? Yes! Limmud International supports us through mentoring and advice; development seminars and a global network for sharing knowledge, experience and innovation, in person and online. We're connected with other Limmud planners around the world through document-sharing and an online discussion group, and a representative of Limmud North America gives us direct and ongoing guidance.
