Mission Statement
Don't Shoot Portland is a social justice nonprofit that uses art, education and civic participation to create social change. Founded in 2016 by community organizer Teressa Raiford, DSP has continued to demand police accountability and legislative change through their on the ground work, impacting youth and inspiring them to lead along the way. In the midst of the global uprising for Black Lives during COVID-19, Don't Shoot is focusing heavily on providing trauma-informed mutual aid and legal advocacy.
About This Cause
Our organizational work and activism, including direct community education workshops, supports the outreach of our continued advocacy as first respondents and has helped community members contribute through direct engagement and legislative value. There are a vast amount of policy based assets influenced and being harnessed in our strategic building of relationships and networks used toward the shift in culture and systemic discrimination. Activists on the front line need to be encouraged to continue honest conversations about Portland's connection with Ferguson, race in America and its influence within politics.
