Mission Statement
Rainier Athletes' mission is to inspire and affirm our youth’s sense of purpose and belonging by intentionally connecting their community of teachers, coaches, families, and mentors.
About This Cause
Rainier Athletes is a long-term mentoring organization that begins walking alongside students and their families in 4th grade and continues through high school graduation and beyond. Each student is matched with a dedicated mentor who meets with them weekly, fully sponsored to participate in year round sports and activities, and supported as they explore and advocate for their unique identity. RA's vision has evolved from a sports incentive program to a comprehensive mentorship model. Today, RA is powered by a quickly growing community of volunteer mentors who work collaboratively to mobilize a network of teachers, coaches, mentors, and families around our city’s historically marginalized students, ultimately cultivating a more inclusive environment for all. We see sports, and other passions, as the vehicle that allows for a much deeper engagement with our youth and their families. RA is in the business of dismantling the inequities built into the very spaces where our youth are meant to thrive - a classroom, a playground and perhaps a soccer field. We partner with educators, coaches, mentors and families who are willing to embrace a sometimes uncomfortable look in the mirror in order to enact systemic change while doing their part to lift up the voices of the youth and their families who have been historically left out.
