Mission Statement
Our philosophy runs around the idea that education is empowerment; JMA was created to address inequities within the education system against minorities, low-income students, and students from developing countries. We hold the firm belief that education should be free and accessible for all. JMA, a nonprofit dedicated to deliver free, accessible biology education to underserved communities in the Bay Area, as well as underprivileged communities across the United states.
About This Cause
Junior Medical Academy is an international education nonprofit that supports disadvantaged students in homeless shelters, low-income schools, low-income apartment complexes, and racial/sexual minorities in accessing a quality education. It's been repeatedly proven in scientific literature that access to educational mentorship is one of the largest factors in helping keep students out of jail, poverty, and decrease their risk of drug/physical abuse. Our team of volunteers strongly believe that our students' futures matter more than the money in their wallets, and work free of cost. This means that we don't take a penny for ourselves; we direct 100% of your money to the students who need it most in our immediate community! We work with vulnerable populations (like students at risk of incarceration, victims of sexual assault/domestic abuse, students in continuation school, students at risk of dropping out, homeless students, students in foster care, and more). We help to pair them with Ivy League educated students, who volunteer their time to help provide mentorship, academic guidance, help students navigate scholarships, and apply to college. We also provide COVID relief support by delivering PPE, sanitizers, and help connect eligible students with vaccines. We have impacted thousands of students from the Bay Area this way, and helped under-resourced students get scholarships to prestigious universities like Harvard, MIT, Brown, Berkeley, and more!
