Mission Statement
Girls Like Me is a mentoring organization whose mission is to empower girls and young women to achieve self-actualization by providing mentorship, education, and resources that help girls and women increase their self-esteem and self-efficacy.
About This Cause
Founded by Déja Coley in 2017 as she reflected on her personal struggle with self-esteem as a teen. Girls Like Me was birthed from Déja’s desire to prevent girls and young women from experiencing the same challenges hindering them from reaching their full potential. Our programs are built on 6 guiding principles: verbal encouragement, observation, self-value recognition, self-representation, emotional state interpretation, and mastery experience. We currently operates 3 programs to advance their mission: Know Your Worth, Make Your Mark, and Society. Know Your Worth is our signature mentoring program for girls ages 11-17 years old which features workshops, outings, fundraisers, and volunteering. Make Your Mark is our college employment program in partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University which features personal and professional development trainings and events. Society is our online membership community aimed to connect girls globally and provide self-esteem and self-efficacy resources.
