About This Cause
WHO WE ARE CREATORS, CONVENERS, CATALYSTS, COMMUNITY The Guild is a multi-sited social enterprise and development ecosystem — owned and led by people of color (“POC”). Our direct action work began in Boston, Massachusetts, in 2012. WHAT WE DO EVOKING THE BEAUTY, STRENGTH, AND TALENT WITHIN CULTURALLY-DIVERSE URBAN COMMUNITIES OF COLOR, THE GUILD FACILITATES WHAT WE CALL ‘COLLABORATIVE ALCHEMY.’ Through a process of venue, presence, and connection, The Guild leads cross-sector partnerships with public institutions, community leaders and activists, and thought-leading private and nonprofit entities to build a community-driven development ecosystem. Our work cultivates healing, preserves culture, and activates vital asset creation. ARTS, CULTURE AND DESIGN We curate art and cultural expressions from indigenous people and people of color — locally, and across the globe. From permanent to pop-up locations, our multi-sited network is blossoming with music, arts, design, dance, and play initiatives. Learn how the Guild showcases a variety of "living” art and design collections across locations and events. HEALING, HEALTH AND WELLNESS We steward healing and wellness initiatives that are co-created by the community, for the community, that span physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental health. From reiki and healthy eating education to drum circles, herbalism, aromatherapy, yoga, tai chi, and beyond, our programs embrace all forms of traditional, neo-traditional, and new health and wellness modalities. NEW BUSINESS NETWORK & ASSET CREATION The Guild's ecosystem of POC residents, healers and artists represents diverse initiatives, social enterprises and approaches to creating and sustaining resilience, wholeness and prosperity in inner city communities. From free wellness classes and book exchange programs to communal gardens for all, The Guild is developing crucial assets and entrepreneurial action for people of color in urban settings that traditional systems often neglect. Our proven process engages individuals as partners and drives high engagement, positively lifts quality of life, and promotes long-term civic engagement and prosperity. REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT We convert urban decay into public sanctuary space. Scars that wound the psyche and identity of urban communities of color are being transmuted by The Guild into symbols of health, vigor, and power.
