Mission Statement

The mission of the Switch Energy Alliance is to inspire an energy-educated future, with the vision of motivating the public to learn about energy, engage in informed conversations, and make smart decisions about our global energy future.

About This Cause

Switch Energy Alliance (SEA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to inspiring an energy educated future that is objective, nonpartisan and sensible. As an organization, we value civil dialog, critical and global thinking, and information that is factually complete and data driven. We reach millions of audience members globally through our high-quality films, television series, and educational platforms. As a result, we influence the global conversation on energy and climate to be reasonable and balanced. We target specific audiences through our four pillars of education: K-12, University, Professional, and Public. All our materials are free to schools, teachers, students, and the general public. K-12 Education ✔ Switch Classroom, our free, online energy curriculum learning platform, has been reaching K-12 students nationally since 2020. There are over 9,300 teachers and 95,000 students registered on the platform, and it is growing every day. With over 60 lessons and 250+ activities, it is a major asset for teachers. Over 1.7 million activities have been completed on the platform to date. The material is relevant to students from 4th grade through 12th grade, and meets AP Environmental Science, IB Environmental Systems & Societies, and NGSS standards. In a recent survey teachers said that the material is “very trustworthy.” University Education ✔ Switch Competition, our university level program, challenges students to identify realistic solutions to energy poverty. Students from around the world compete for a major cash prize. To date, over 3,600 students from 58 countries across 6 continents have participated. SEA has supported eight student interns from winning teams in the last three years. These are life changing opportunities for participating students. ✔ College Course is being concepted, building on and adapting Switch Classroom. Professional Education ✔ Switch Academy, our online platform for professional education, is in development. If Switch Classroom is where you teach, then Switch Academy is where you learn. We believe all citizens should have a basic level of energy knowledge. Academy will be dynamic, engaging, spark critical thinking, and demonstrate a measurable increase in knowledge about the interplay between energy, the environment, and the economy. This program will offer multi-mode learning opportunities for all types of professionals, including those not in the energy sector. Although Academy will be free to educators, we will charge a nominal fee for the platform to companies. This revenue will provide ongoing financial stability to SEA as an organization. Public Education ✔ Energy Switch, our climate and energy talk show, is airing in over 200 cities nationwide and reaching over 100 million households through PBS. Dr. Scott Tinker serves as the moderator between two expert guests with opposing views on hot topics, such as nuclear waste, electric cars, carbon capture, and geopolitics. Energy Switch has recently been released on all major Podcast channels such as Apple and Spotify, with strong initial uptake. ✔ Switch On – SEA’s recent film Switch On was one of the first to shine a light on the billions of people with little or no energy, and the benefits and challenges of powering the last third of the planet. Switch On can be streamed online for free on the SEA website, on YouTube, and on Prime Video. Switch On the Series features seven 20-minute episodes that take us deeper into each location and is available through PBS. Content from Switch On has been incorporated into Classroom. ✔ Energy Makes Our World (Museum Film) – SEA produced a 5-minute, Hollywood-quality film to highlight the importance of energy in our lives to museum visitors of all ages. An original musical score plays under remarkable global images to bring the viewer a dialog-free, immersive experience. This “timeless” film demonstrates the impact of energy on every facet of modern life. EMOW is free to museums, and is designed especially for energy exhibit halls, IMAX, dome, and other large screen theaters. EMOW has been seen by 800,000 museum goers to date and continues to expand nationally and internationally. ✔ Website, Social Media and Marketing – SEA’s website (www.switchon.org) allows the public to access the most remarkable film-based energy content in the world. Switch materials have millions of views on our website and YouTube. Our social media efforts are present across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube. In addition, SEA Chairman Dr. Scott Tinker gives presentations and keynote speeches to tens of thousands of audience members each year.
