MORRISON FOUNDATION (Morrison Child and Family Services)

Portland, Oregon, 97220-2553 United States

Mission Statement

We provide culturally responsive, anti-oppressive mental health and substance use disorder treatment, support, and prevention services to children, youth, and families who are working through the effects of systemic racism, trauma, poverty, abuse, neglect, or other mental health needs.

About This Cause

Morrison’s goal is to Help Kids Be Kids and Families Stay Together. We provide mental health and substance use recovery services for over 7,000 youth and families throughout Oregon, with the majority of services provided in the Portland metro area. We serve individuals of every background and emphasize culturally-specific and anti-racist practices. In addition to outpatient and day treatment programs, we provide therapeutic foster care, community based services, immigrant youth services, support for monolingual Spanish-speaking parents, peer support for parents recovering from substance use issues, and residential care for youth overcoming commercial sexual exploitation. Our programs are supported by therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, case workers, and peers in recovery. We work closely with the Department of Human Services – Child Welfare, the Oregon Youth Authority, Portland Public Schools, and other government agencies to identify kids and families who need help, with the intention of reunifying families wherever possible. Over 90% of our families live at the Federal poverty level, and our work supports them to prevent houselessness, generational poverty, future family traumas, and other hardships that impact our communities. Positive outcomes include reductions in substance use challenges, improvements in life skills and satisfaction, and increased social and academic successes.
