Mission Statement
The River Deep Foundation is dedicated to helping military veterans and other individuals who have experienced physical, emotional or psychological trauma—and those who assist them—to heal and re-engage in life through adventure, recreation and a network of support.
About This Cause
We are a Colorado 501(c)3 nonprofit organization helping military veterans, the disabled and other individuals who have experienced physical, emotional or psychological trauma, and their families and those who assist them, to heal and re-engage in life through adventure, recreation and a network of support. We serve a diverse group of people who may have suffered physical impairments such as spinal cord injuries (SCI), traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and other physical disabilities, as well as those who are experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or other mental health challenges and mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, along with their families. For over 20 years, River Deep Foundation has been improving mental health and quality of life through our Social Outing Program which facilitates recreational activities that promote reintegration and healing. Through collaboration with a robust network of community partners, we provide therapeutic recreation activities that empower participants and their support systems to heal on their own terms. Our specialized approach is accessible, science-based and trauma-informed to ensure positive, successful outcomes. Our goals include improved self-confidence, restored physical strength, recharged energy, renewed hope and enhanced overall well-being of body and mind. We accomplish this through: 1. Recreational Group Outings that facilitate healing through active re-engagement in life. Activities include fishing, hunting, archery, art classes, cooking classes and much more! 2. Collaboration with an alliance of complimentary 501C3 non-profit organizations who share resources, knowledge and ideas with the goal of providing more efficient and effective programming and outreach. We believe when an individual is in crisis, their family is in crisis. Our programs focus on the family as a whole and our therapeutic activities are available to the individual's entire family and immediate support system, including spouses, partners, children, parents and caretakers managing the day-to-day. This approach sets us apart from other services by expanding the population we can positively impact, diversifying our programmatic offerings and being supportive and inclusionary to the needs of entire families who have been affected.
