Mission Statement
The Briarwood School empowers students with diagnosed learning differences or intellectual disabilities to reach their maximum potential through diagnostic-prescriptive instruction in a structured academic environment. We believe in our philosophy, “Every child can learn and has the right to be taught in the way he or she learns best”
About This Cause
The Briarwood School provides innovative, prescriptive instruction to children with learning differences and intellectual disabilities. Briarwood is an accredited, independent, non-profit school especially designed for children in grades K-12. The school accepts children of all national and ethnic origins and no government funding is received. The Lower School includes children with learning differences (K-6) in classes of 8-10. Teaching techniques are adapted to each child’s individual learning style and pace. The Middle-Upper School includes college preparatory and regular programs for classes of 8-10 with learning differences in middle and senior high school. Each student is guided toward an individual academic goal for post-high school years and offers an array of electives and sports. Over 90% of our graduates attend schools of high learning. The Tuttle School includes ages 5-21 with intellectual disabilities. The student/teacher ratio is approximately 6-8 students per teacher and teacher assistant. The curriculum is designed to provide functional academics, motor, and living skills, as well as promote vocational training.
