About This Cause

1. We Run Oakland: For Our Children (WRO:FOC) is a public benefit charity 5k run/walk event in which A Sista’s Touch (AST) and DO hosts to raise human trafficking awareness in Oakland, at the historic Lake Merritt. Since 2018, AST has dedicated our advocacy efforts to incite civic engagement towards an issue that has become a national epidemic. The goal of We Run Oakland: For Our Children is to engage with the community to ensure they are more informed about the perils of human trafficking. Our objective is to continue our efforts in bridging the gap between services and community, closing the gap between ignorance and action, while challenging our mental and physical health. We Run Oakland: For Our Children emphasizes the importance of teaching RESPECT between "him" & "her"; promotes self-worth, self-respect, self-confidence; and demands the elimination of exploitation. Proceeds are used to support local nonprofit agencies that provide preventative and supportive services in the area of human trafficking and to advance AST programs; A Sista's Always Prepared. 2. A Sista’s Always Prepared: Puberty to Queen (ASAP:PQ) is an edification program designed to cultivate confidence in young African American girls through preparation as they transition through puberty. The target population of the program is 9-12 year old African American girls and their parent/guardian.
