Mission Statement
The mission of the Willow Center is to provide peer support groups for children and teens, and their adult care givers, grieving a death of someone close to them, and to extend supportive services, grief resources and education to families, care givers and the community free of charge to promote help, hope and healing.
About This Cause
Willow Center is a children’s bereavement support program that assists children and teens, ages 3-18 years, and their adult caregivers. Our primary program is providing peer group support to facilitate help, hope and healing after the death of someone close to them. These peer support groups are coordinated by mental health professionals and trained volunteers, and are offered year round, meeting twice a month in Lewiston. Children are grouped with peers of similar age and participate in age appropriate activities to address bereavement needs and facilitate grief work. These activities allow the children/teens to develop needed coping skills for a lifetime. While the children/teens are in their groups there is a concurrent adult group provided to assist the children’s care givers with their own grief and to address issues with caring for their grieving child. The Willow Center, in partnership with The Eluna Foundation, also provides Camp Erin, a weekend children’s (ages 6 – 17 yrs.) bereavement camp that combines traditional camp activities with grief education and emotional support. This camp is facilitated by mental health professionals and trained volunteers. The Center also offers grief resources, education, supportive services, community presentations and consultation to families, care givers and the community at-large to facilitate healthy grieving and healing to those in need. Without the support of the community none of this could have happened. On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff, thank you!
