Mission Statement
Our vision is that Coyote Creek is a resilient ecosystem for all living things to enjoy.
About This Cause
Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful connects people from all walks of life with Coyote Creek, the largest watershed in Santa Clara County with the largest number of species of concern in the region. Our mission is to engage, educate and encourage people by bringing communities together to take action for, learn about and play along a healthy Coyote Creek. - We invite people to advocate for and take action to revitalize the creek through cleanups and plantings for the benefit of a healthy watershed for people, plants, and wildlife, including the endangered steelhead salmon. - We host recreational and cultural activities including bike outings in the Coyote Valley; backpacking trips to Henry Coe Park, the headwaters of Coyote Creek; kayak outings to the mouth of the river at San Francisco Bay; creek-side walks to share the beauty of the birds, plants, and animals in the region. - We offer educational activities including tours of the Coyote Meadows area a proposed park as a member of the Coyote Meadows Coalition; Coyote Creek Watershed Tours, and walks with many partners. To accomplish our goals, we work with community and school groups, neighborhood associations, nonprofit partners, corporations, San Jose State University, and regional public agencies. Our success as a young organization includes: - Hosting 180+ creek cleanups while removing with nearly 10,000 volunteers removing over 360 tons of trash to help clean the water and improve the flow of the river over the past 8 years. - Founding members with the Coyote Meadows Coalition and Protect Coyote Valley to aid with the protection of natural resources along Coyote Creek. - Hosting over 60 BioBlitz events where people explore and document nature with naturalists at parks along Coyote Creek Our collaborative nature is what makes us successful. The creek cannot be revived without the help of our community and neighbors. As a result, we have been recognized for our hard work with the John Muir Conservation Initiative award from the John Muir Association, Outstanding Environmental Project from the Friends of the San Francisco Estuary through the South Bay Creeks Collaborative (eight organizations), and most recently the Above and Beyond Award for Executive Director Deb Kramer from the Santa Clara Valley Water District.
