Mission Statement
Exceptional Artists Foundation empowers artists with disabilities by creating awareness about their talents, fostering independence and enabling a new generation of artists to have access to art education, therapy, and training programs.
About This Cause
As a 501c3 based on New York (EIN: 82-1746713), Exceptional Artists Foundation was established in 2017 with the intention to empower artists with disabilities by creating awareness about their talents, fostering independence and enabling a new generation of artists to have access to art education, therapy, and training programs. Our co-founders have decades of experience living and working with the differently-abled communities globally and witnessed the systematic challenges in enabling these communities to live meaningful lives and be recognized by the public. As a public charity, we are committed to effect a societal change in the awareness of the talent from these artists and create the possibilities of long term empowerment and financial independence for the Exceptional Artists through their work. We are an organization led and supported by volunteers. All Board of Directors, officers. Advisors, and volunteers are donating their professional skills on their personal time. A majority of our funding sources are from individual donors and are used for purchasing supplies for our program participants and putting on events. Since inception, we have successfully delivered the following in-person advocacy and education programs and community events: 2017, 2018, 2019: In partnership with Camp Anchor, we hosted our Annual Exceptional Artists Art Experience for over 100 differently-abled children, men, and women and family members to participate in a day of therapeutic creative art-making and meditation 2018: In partnership with the Brooklyn Public Library, we hosted our Exceptional Artists Art Experience for a group of (total of 20) differently-abled youth participants at the Central Library Branch and Flatlands Branch 2019: In partnership with Brooklyn Creative League, we created Exceptional Artists Curated - a 3 month showcase for exceptional artists at the co-working space 2020 and 2021: Covid has hindered our ability to recruit teaching artists to deliver in-person programs. As a result, we pivoted to delivering our art experience virtually. The virtual nature of our experience enabled us to expand our geographical coverage, which included participants from Texas, New Orleans and California.
