Mission Statement
Cristo Rey San Diego High School’s mission is to educate young people of limited economic means to become men and women of faith, purpose, and service, and prepared for life. We provide a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, integrated with a relevant work study experience and community service. Students graduate prepared for college and service to their communities.
About This Cause
Cristo Rey San Diego is an independent, private, college-preparatory high school. We are part of the Cristo Rey Network ® of high schools, the only network of high schools in the country that integrates four years of professional work experience. Cristo Rey schools deliver a powerful and innovative approach to inner-city education. Cristo Rey schools equip students from families of limited economic means with the knowledge, character, and skills to transform their lives. Students of any faith, race, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, and national and ethnic origin are welcome at Cristo Rey. Every student enrolled at Cristo Rey San Diego participates in an innovative Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP). Through this program, each student works five full days a month at an entry-level, corporate job. The CWSP provides students the opportunity to build core skills that are relevant in today's workplace, while helping to fund their education. Students gain valuable job experience and grow in self-confidence, while making the school uniquely sustainable. In addition, the school supports its graduates through-out their college experience, with Cristo Rey graduates three times as likely as their low-income peers to complete a bachelor’s degree by age 24. We exclusively serve families with limited economic means hoping for a better future for their children. To attend the school, a student’s family income must fall below three times the poverty rate.
