Mission Statement

Bridges Oregon, Inc. is a nonprofit for Oregonians who are Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing or face other communication barriers. It is in our mission to facilitate equity, inclusiveness and provide a bridge to opportunities through advocacy, education and communication.

About This Cause

Since 2013, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community sought a community-based assessment that will identify and address the needs and concerns of the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing community in Oregon as it relates to their overall quality of life. In December 2016, a report on the community-based needs assessment was published by Western Oregon University (WOU). With this report, the community worked with the legislature during the 2017 session to no available. Bridges Oregon was founded to respond to the needs of the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing community. We became the first and only culturally specific and responsive nonprofit organization in Oregon to provide advocacy and accompaniment services to individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing survivors in their heritage languages. In 2021, we received our first grant from the Oregon Department of Justice and opened our first Victim of Crime Act (VOCA) service on August 30, 2021. It has been a little over a year and our only one full-time Victim Advocate served over 60 Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing survivors to this date. We currently provide several other social and human services to the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing Oregonians. Please visit our website to learn more.
