Mission Statement

The Invisible Wounds Project's mission is to positively impact and enhance the lives of those who serve(d).

About This Cause

The Invisible Wounds Project works with current and former military, police, fire, EMS, frontline medical staff, corrections, 911 dispatch and their families related to mental health, wellness, PTSD and suicide issues. Those that we serve are the ones who run towards danger, when others are running away. They are the servants, the heroes, the men and women who see and do the hardest things in society. That service comes at a cost to themselves and to their families. It's our mission to make a positive impact in their lives. We have a Support Center in Forest Lake that offers those we serve a safe and healthy place to go for services. Our Support Center has a community lounge with a pool table, darts, bubble hockey a coffee bar and more. We also have a conference room where we host training, education and social events. It is a space where those who have served can go and connect with others who "get them". Those who have served have experiences that only others who also have served will ever truly understand. We offer a space where they can be themselves and connect naturally in a therapeutic environment. Beyond the social connection space of the Support Center, we are also passionate about providing access to the arts. It's been scientifically proven that the arts positively impact our brains response to stress and helps lessen the effects of PTSD. Our Support Center has a woodworking shop where members make items from wood while being taught/mentored by others. We also have a laser engraving room, a finishing room for painting, epoxy work, stained glass and more. Additionally, there is an art studio for painting, drawing, clay and other creative opportunities. Though many that we work with are not in "crisis" one of our biggest services is connecting our members to resources and therapy. We have a Support Coordinator that meets with all members and connects them with a mentor or peer, so that they have someone to easily connect with and can support them in their process. That being said, we typically do 1 to 2 suicide interventions each week for people who are in crisis. We meet our clients needs where they are. Each case and person is unique, so we don't have a one-size fits all approach to our service. For some they need therapy services, while others simply need a place to go be with others that isn't the bar (we don't serve alcohol). Still others use us for education, group classes, or for the creative arts aspect. Our motto is "You Are Not Alone" and we do everything we can to ensure that our people know that they are supported, and have resources available to help improve their lives.
