About This Cause
TTS Literacy Project for Children's goal is to help encourage literacy within the youth of America using our book giveaway programs that promote reading. Including our trademark program called Reading to Daisy & Max, where children are reading to sheltered dogs across the country. This award-winning program is our flagship, which increases a child's O.R.F while helping reduce sheltered dogs’ anxiety and find a forever home. Yet it all starts with giving a child a book. It starts with placing one book at a time in a home. Our mission is to help improve reading skills by exciting children through our Read Day Events and provide each student in attendance with their own brand-new personal book to take home and keep. Reading is the most crucial academic skill because it is the foundation for learning. When children struggle with reading, they will also struggle with math, science, and history. Their academic careers and their future depend on being proficient in reading. That is where the Tommy Two Shoes Literacy Project for Children comes in. We will be the advocate for encouraging these students to read by igniting their passion through our free book giveaways. When a child is excited about a story, they are more likely to pick up another book just like it, hence increasing their reading proficiency including their vocabulary and word literacy skills. We created Reading to Daisy & Max. Our goal is, when a child receives their book, they go home in excitement and share their new story with their parents, grandparents, or relatives, who will help guide them in their path to reading their new book better each time. Then they call our National Number and read this book and other books to help a sheltered dog. Why this program works is simple. Access to a phone for every child in every home is available. They can be in the most rural area in the country or in a large metropolitan city, access to a phone provided educational equity. Children love dogs, so children benefit in both socially and emotionally by helping a sheltered dog find a forever home. Reading to Daisy & Max show increase in reading activity by 380%, reading skills increase by 94% and number of minutes per day increase from less than one minute to 18.7 minutes per day. Data provides us the courage to make this program a national tool for every child. TTS Literacy Project for Children qualifies for ESSER funding, but every individual group business, corporation can be involved in changing the future of so many children. We believe that no matter the background, every child deserves a new book to help encourage literacy. Our goal is to change this metric and improve the statistic that illiteracy has on those who are below reading levels skills. We know the importance literacy is for the youth and the path students, who are struggling in reading, will have later in life. If a student struggles with reading, they will also struggle in all other subjects, creating a life of hardship for that child. Studies have shown that if students are not up to a third-grade reading level by 3rd grade, they are four times less likely to graduate by age 19 than a child who does read proficiently by that time. Add poverty to the mix, and a student is thirteen times less likely to graduate on time than his or her proficient, wealthier peer. WE then add the Covid effect, and data is showing children are even further behind in reading skills. That means higher drug use, higher dropout rates higher teen pregnancies, higher unemployment and lower life expectancy. All can be avoided if we as a society refocus on reading. It is a gift every child should acquire, without any restrictions. Our programs help all students from different walks of life and caters to students in need who are either already starting to struggle or who don’t have books at home. We want to be the advocate to help encourage these students to read by providing free books. Our project is a simple and unique concept where the community comes together to help sponsor students in need and deliver brand new books to them. We need your support to change the future of so many children. Only generous donations from people like you can help our efforts to change the status-Quo. Please consider donating or become a sponsor in your community give a child the opportunity to read. Thank You
