Mission Statement
The mission of SCRUM is to foster national and international amateur rugby football competition. We believe that athletics, academics, and social responsibility are essential for the healthy development of youth. SCRUM shall endeavor to advance these themes by providing education and training for youth coaches, trainers, and teachers, as well as training, supervision, travel, equipment and a safe environment for rugby football activities and other youth programs in the greater Milwaukee metropolitan area.
About This Cause
Our charity consists of two primary activities. The first is assisting with organizing a rugby club, the Milwaukee Barbarians. This club trains and develops players and coaches who can help further the mission with outreach to local rugby organizations like those in grade-schools and those organized independently such as WisconsinTag Rugby. In addition to educational and awareness support, the Milwaukee Barbarians alumni association contribute financially to the organization, with most donations used to further the mission. The second main activity of SCRUM is hosting the Lakefront 7s Rugby festival. The Lakefront 7s is the largest summer-rugby event in America. Youth teams compete for free at the Lakefront 7s, offering excellent development opportunities for athletes. Adult teams pay to participate, and all proceeds are re-invested in the mission. Together, funds raised through the Barbarians and the Lakefront 7s will be used to develop and maintain a dedicated rugby facility in Milwaukee. This will serve as a community hub for rugby in southeastern Wisconsin and expand our ability to promote the sport, thus furthering our mission.
