About This Cause
FUL is a 12-year youth development organization that engages the Milwaukee neighborhoods of 53205 and 53206 in programming that focuses on increasing the amount of opportunities offered to youth. We are aware of the marginalization that neighborhoods like Harambee and Sherman Park experience through the inaccessibility of community resources. We combat this through partnership with families to meet their students' needs; our FUL parents serve on the Parent Advisory Board, which lifts their voice in the organizational decision making. Collectively, we decide on the various components of youth and leadership development our young people participate in with us. The mission of Future Urban Leaders is to create opportunities that support youth in realizing their unique potential. We motivate scholars to be self-aware future leaders and ambassadors of change in their community and beyond. Our objective is to remove any and all barriers that hinder the access of our Milwaukee youth receiving the education & resources needed from K4 through post-secondary education to reach higher success in academics and future careers. Our STEAM activities provide our students with the opportunity to strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving skills in order to build resiliency through perseverance. Our offerings, facilitated by local Milwaukee business owners and Milwaukee College Prep instructors, help students explore their interest in pursuing a career in numerous industries, from business to culinary arts, from different art disciplines to engineering. We challenge them to think critically about social issues, as their interests are directly linked to seeing themselves as change-makers in their community. Our list of programs includes, but is not limited to, entrepreneurship courses, mindfulness yoga, community empowerment, economic development, civic engagement, self-identity utilizing concepts of design and sustainability to enhance and make positive changes in the world around them. We want to provide more equitable participation in rich programming to increase the level of access our youth have to STEAM-related careers.
