Give America Hope, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, believes substance abuse, addiction, and relapse are preventable, and successful recovery is possible for all. GAH partners with public and private organizations as well as state and local governments to provide information, education, tools, and policy assistance to facilitate long-term mental health and addiction recovery and to advance policies that promote recovery-ready communities.
About This Cause
GAH partners with public and private organizations as well as state and local governments to provide information, education, tools, and policy assistance to facilitate long-term mental health and addiction recovery and to advance policies that promote recovery-ready communities. Give America Hope has developed an instrument to facilitate prevention, improve treatment, and increase the likelihood of sustainable recovery, the Risk Assessment Monitoring System (RAMS). RAMS is a tool to help policymakers and providers promote prevention, decrease addiction and relapse, and reduce the social as well as economic impact of abuse, addiction and relapse. This scientifically-credible monitoring and evaluation system delivers vital predictive and analytical early-warning information in four critical areas: early onset use (prevention), problem use (acute intervention/treatment), chronic use (relapse), and sustainable recovery pathways (recovery resources). RAMS provides qualitative and quantitative information and data on both individual and aggregate levels, accounting for all of the factors that play a role in addiction and relapse. RAMS examines social determinants of health to calculate existing internal and external resources, infrastructure, and barriers across various domains. This information is then used to pinpoint specific risk factors and calculate risk scores. RAMS identifies existing systems-wide challenges using a scientifically-credible method to examine: estimated and high relapse rates; costs associated with multiple relapses and treatments; individuals with the highest relapse risks in order to ensure resource use and treatment efficiencies; and target population relapse risk to inform service providers, communities, and/or counties.
