Mission Statement
Spencer Group is committed to increasing rescue dogs’ adoptability into safe, loving homes, preventing the return of adopted dogs, and improving dogs’ emotional and physical well-being. We do this by partnering with rescue groups to deliver humane, science-based dog training and behavior education on a scholarship basis.
About This Cause
Spencer Group is committed to increasing rescue dogs’ adoptability into safe, loving homes, preventing the return of adopted dogs, and improving dogs’ emotional and physical well-being. Increase Adoptability ● We provide humane, science-based training and ongoing support and education on dog behavior and so that the dogs in rescue will find loving, permanent homes. ● Our Spencer Scholarship addresses rescue groups’ resource constraints and increases adoptability of dogs. Improve Dogs’ Emotional/Physical Well-being ● By delivering scholarship-based, humane training and education on dog behavior, we improve rescue dogs’ emotional and physical well being. ● Well-meaning and loving but ill-informed caregivers are inadvertently harming their dogs via aversive training methods. ● We partner with rescue groups to educate fosters and adopters about humane, science-based alternatives to the aversive training techniques that have become widely accepted. ● We provide ongoing support and education so that the dogs in rescue can build happy, healthy lives with their families. Deliver Science-Based, Humane Training and Education ● The lack of affordable, humane training results in the suffering of dogs subjected to aversive training methods. ● We provide humane, science-based training and education on dog behavior, regardless of behavior challenges. ● We are a resource for rescues with anxious, fearful or reactive dogs to receive positive reinforcement training rather than resorting to aversive methods for otherwise manageable behavior. Spencer Group Vision/Messaging/Media Policy ● We devise training plans that will be manageable for busy foster homes and provide transitional support when dogs move into their permanent homes. Help Rescue Groups Rescue More Dogs ● The number of reactive, fearful and anxious dogs in rescue groups is increasing. ● Spencer Group works transparently and in partnership with rescue groups that lack time or financial resources to handle these cases without support. ● Humane, science-based training and education will result in better lives for these dogs and reduce the workload for rescues. ● As fosters and the adopters learn about humane, science-based training, they will be better equipped to respond to behavioral challenges and will encounter less long-term emotional and behavioral fallout. ● Instead of focusing on behavioral challenges and returns, rescues can focus on saving more dogs.
