We help grow good citizens We are guardians for the future: The health of our democracy depends on an active, mindful, informed citizenry. We partner with educators, parents and young students to create democratic tools, processes and programs that improve student engagement, self reliance and civic development. Our services are offered for free.
About This Cause
Inquiring Minds Institute has a Silver rating on Guidestar Inquiring Minds starts with the premise that learning through inquiry encourages children to start becoming self-reliant, engaged, mindful, innovative and cooperative democratic citizens beginning at the age of seven years old. The process of inquiry is the flashlight we can all use to stay on the path. Our work evolves by working directly with children, listening to and understanding them in and out of school. Through co-creation with children and their supporters, we are developing their civic heart and preparing children to be engaged, thoughtful citizens. Schools, parents and others are not charged for our services since we choose to work with those who are underserved and payment would create an obstacle. We are a small organization and operate solely on grants. We also work statewide and nationwide to help inform decision makers about the need for improvement in civic education (which is often non existent) in K-6 grades. To that end you can see videos we've created and we will soon post the white paper produced by the Center For Educational Equity at Teachers College/Columbia which amplifies our work and the need and impact of it. We play a very active role in DemocracyReady NY (hosted by CEE) which we helped start a number of years ago.
